The cranes who used to dwell along the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia are long gone, replaced by concrete and tarmac and steel. This fanciful small quilt imagines ethereal cranes (actually egrets) holding court on one of the many mechanical cranes along the river. The images are photographs developed with cyanotype on cotton fabric, background toned in tanic acid. Hand-quilted in red thread with the design of a mechanical crane.
