I wanted to create a piece that incorporated American values with the plight of the refugees. I used a portion of a map of the United States, covered with words evoking American ideals. Between the map and the Atlantic Ocean is a fence keeping the refugees out. A refugee mother and her child are in the ocean, hoping to become Americans.
