I’ve always enjoyed other people’s Sunbonnet Sue quilts–those traditional darlings of quilting whose faces are hidden behind a large bonnet, yet was never tempted to make my own. But when the #MeToo movement swept through the U.S., I couldn’t get her out of my head. I started thinking about the abuse our foremothers had no words for, including those women who made the vintage quilts and embroideries in my collection. This piece is a tribute to their endurance. It’s explained further in my blog post here.
